Summer Basketball Builds Future Leaders

At Grade A Plus, learning doesn’t pause for summer break; it simply takes a different form. This year’s summer basketball camp is a powerful example of how the organization expands learning beyond the classroom. While the kids come to shoot hoops and stay active, they’re also building real-world skills like communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking. Each day on the court becomes a lesson in working with others, thinking quickly, and growing in confidence.

Led by dedicated community volunteers, the camp is intentionally designed to push students to grow as both athletes and leaders. One of those volunteers, Coach Josh Larkins, shares, “They are learning how to be a team. I see them growing in how they apply their new skills and leadership into the real world. I think they like that it isn’t always about using pen and paper to learn something new.” Coaches like Josh help model resilience, respect, and leadership—qualities that go far beyond the gym.

For the students, it’s more than just a summer camp. It’s a place where they feel seen, supported, and challenged to rise. The energy of the court mirrors the mission of Grade A Plus: to motivate and equip students with the tools they need to succeed, not just academically, but in life. Whether it’s calling plays, encouraging a teammate, or bouncing back after a missed shot, every moment is an opportunity to learn and to lead.
